Attending a writers' congress with minimal duties - plus a bout with the 'flu - afforded him the leisure to ponder — himself and his work, to probe again into his Hitler youth and how change is possible; to indulge his lively imagination and fantasy which may take him along the path to ancient Greece and its myths; or in the whirling steam of the Lukács baths feverish visions of old Hungarian warriors emerge. His concern for language may erupt into a play on words or an exercise in concrete poetry. Gourmet interest in food brings forth an endless list of Hungarian pastry or how their famed salami is made or the charm of Budapest cafés. Discussions on art and literature or on Hungary's thousand-year-old history far into the night with Hungarian colleagues. In brief, a large canvas, original, stimulating and provocative, depicted with the sure hand of the poet.
