Australia's greatest landscape painter, Fred Williams, died in April 1982 at the age of 55. The revised edition of this book brings the study of his career full circle and includes the climactic works of his final two years. These late works include the Pilbara series — Fred Williams's notable account of the outback landscape. The final landscapes and portraits of his last two years are also published here for the first time.
Since the late 1950s, Fred Williams had consistently pioneered a new vision of the Australian landscape. Patrick McCaughey's scholarly and highly illustrated study of Fred Williams was originally published in 1980, and was the first comprehensive and fully researched attempt to inform a wider public of the significance of Williams's work. The author traces the artist's career from his student days through his years of mature achievement to the flowering of his art in the last years of his life. Over 200 colour reproductions show every facet of Williams's work, including many works which have not yet been shown or published. Vissza
