The Author YUKIE (KOZO) NIWA graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of top Japanese university, Kyoto University, in 1962. He holds a Ph.D. in medicine, and is Director of the Niwa Institute of Immunology. Dr.Niwa has been involved in clinical reseach into oxygen radicals and SOD for many years both in Japan and, since thel970s, internationally. He is now recognized as a world authority in this field. He has published more than 70 articles on SOD and other biodefences in prominent English-language international medical journals such as "Blood", and is alsó on the adjudication panel of papers submitted to the international speciálist journal,MBiochemical Pharmacology". Dr.Niwa was alsó a forerunner in the investigation into the change inflicted by infrared rays not only on water, animals and the humán body in generál, but alsó their physiological and biochemical changes to the body at the molecular level. He has published a number of papers on this subject in medical journals both in Japan and internationally. Dr.Niwa has published nine Japanese-language books related to oxygen radicals for the generál reader, all of which have met with an exceptional response.
