FUNCTIONAL PATHOLOGY OF THE ENDOMETRIUM AND CERVICAL BIOPSY SPECIMENS by H. JELLINEK and F. TÓTH The book deals - among others -with the endometrial eycle examining it through the funetion of the ovaries. The menstrual bleeding is explained not simply by the well-known alterations of the vessels but by the complete change of the endometrium, because nidation is taken as the basis of the funetion. Thus all the endometrial elements including the activity of the stroma become much clearer. As the causes of the bleeding disorders are approached from the point of view of the funetion, it may help in controlling the effects of the therapy. Dividing the cycle into phases, histochemical analysis and electronmieroscopic evaluations are of diagnostie as well as therapeutic importance. The chapter dealing with the eareful analysis of the placenta-which may often cause the damage of the foetus - deserves special attention.
