HUNGARIAN PEASANT COSTUMES is part of the Hungarian Folk Art series. It serves an important and timely need: today only a very few villages preserve their original peasant costumes with all their colourfulness and variety. The vast majority of villages have completed the process known as the "undressing", and have
changed to urban styles of clothing. Beginning with the development of peasant costumes and their aesthetic characteristics, the author goes on to show the different costumes of the Great Plain, the Uplands and Transylvania, by means of peasant costumes still in use and museum collections.
This beautiful little volume is illustrated with 32 black-and-wliitc pliotographs and 16 colour plates.
