After piacing in its context Vasarely's language of plastic unities, the author analyzes the flowering of the artist's genius from its various angles. In doing so he unfolds a concise panorama of the various aesthetic currents and tendencies which have come into existence in Paris during the past twenty years, a panorama evoked by this artist who frequently played in it the dual role of moving spirit and witness. This study, which is at once a warm homage to the major representative of Kineticism, to which Vasarely has given all its stature and nobility, and a simple initiation into the art of today, is enriched by an excellent selection of 22 black-and-white and 52 color reproductions showing the quality of Vasarely's work.
