The claim that Jesus Christ returned to life after his crucifixion is at once an historical, theological, hermeneutic and personal issue. One can ask "Did it really happen?" One can ask "How are we supposed to understand it?" Or one can ask "What does it mean to me?" It is to the credit of Gerald O'Collins that his new book on the resurrection deals with all of these questions. Although he is a scholar, he is not content to address the resurrection merely as a scholarly issue. He is aware that people approach Jesus and his resurrection from the dead with their oWn questions and expectations.

Finally he considers twentieth-century testimony from Kari Barth, Rudolph Bultmann, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Willi Marxsen, Jürgen Moltmann, Kari Rahner, Hans Küng and Jan Sobrino.
