The third volume of Britain and Hungary is not only the continuation of the two previous volumes, but also the last - although not for a lack of topics. In fact this area appears to be an inexhaustible source of research possibilities. Nevertheless, within the scope of our project we have reached a stopping point, at which it is possible for us to pass on our work. This is precisely why in this volume we have chosen to concentrate primarily on the achievements of the 20th century, while also addressing the most glaring gaps in our research in 19th century artistic connections. The approximately twenty studies once again have served only to map out various areas which could be grouped into the already familiar categories of 'Architecture and Civil Engineering', 'Applied Arts and Design' and 'Art and Theory'. The authors of the studies include two scholars from the University of Glasgow, as well as colleagues from different Hungarian research institutes and universities. Their topics are varied, from monographic treatment of artists and scholars to the history of institutes and collections. The third volume concludes with a complete chronology of contacts between Britain and Hungary in the visual arts and an index to the contents of all three volumes, thus facilitating use of these volumes as a research tool. We hope that this book will serve not only those interested in the connections between the two countries, but will also contribute to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of universal culture. The following has been written about our previous volumes: ...the book is unusually rich in interesting material for the non specialist, as well as impeccably edited. Francesco Fedele Chair professor of Antropology, Federico II University of Naples It looks a really useful 'quarry' and more than that, it contains a great amount of thought. Stefan Muthesius Professor of School of World Art Studies and Museology, University of East Anglia, Norwich Vissza
