During recent years, an increasingly clear and detailed picture has
emerged of the ways that poverty, exclusion from education and
social disadvantages - including discrimination based on biases
related to gender, ability, social class/caste and ethnicity - all lead to
inequities in health. Health research has a vital role to play in
reducing these inequities. Global Forum Update on Research for
Health Volume 2 is the second in a series of essential overviews of
global health research by leaders from the world's health research
community. Produced with the Global Forum for Health Research to
coincide with its 2005 annual meeting, Forum 9, this second edition
presents over thirty perspectives on health research issues and
challenges relating to poverty and equity from many of the leading
institutions and public health professionals across the globe.
