GOYA
Goya, one of the greatest Spanish painters, was essentially a man of his time, yet his work is as poignantly relevant now as when it was first created in the turbulent Europe of Napoleon. Goya comments freely, savagely, satirically, on his fellow beings. Even as a court painter he portrayed the Spanish royal family exactly as he saw them and no hint of flattery clouded his vision.

The introduction and plate notes eloquently reveal the man, his life and his work. The 49 colour plates handsomely illustrate the phases of Goya's art from his early fashionable brilliance to his depressing yet compassionate portrayals of human crime and folly.
