This book reports on an International Scientific Forum, convened and sponsored by the Center for Theoretical Stuides of the University of Miami, to consider future global energy requ.i re ments and world developments to meet this demand. The conference invited prominent participants to ex pl ore the scientific, economic, and political implications of critical issues such as the environmental impact of various energy alternatives, the nature and effectiveness of national and international safeguards for a variety Of nuclear fuel cycles (including plutónium), the possibility of nuclear arms proliferation, and problems of waste disposal. Alternative energy sources considered include thermonuclear, coal, solar, and geo-thermal as wejt as the availability of oil and natural gas.
