, Mâ: 'f1 ;
Although benzodiazepine antianxiety drugs
have been in use for a quarter of a century, it
is only recently that we have begun to under-
stand their mechanisms of action. The discovery
of specific binding sites for these substances and
their now established interaction with GABA
provides new leads for the understanding and
treatment of a wide range of affective disorders.
This volume surveys the most recent research
on the mechanisms and clinical potential of the
benzodiazepines. The book begins by examining
preclinical findings on ligand-receptor. inter-
actions, neuropharmacology, behavioral phar-
macology, GABA/benzodiazepine interactions,
and benzodiazepine antagonists. Subsequent
chapters discuss the use of the benzodiazepines
in clinical pharmacology with respect to metab-
olism,... Tovább

in clinical pharmacology with respect to metab-
olism, pharmacokinetics, interaction with other
substances, use in sleep disorders, and safety.
The final section further explores clinical use
for treatment of anxiety, neurological disorders,
endogenous depression, and schizophrenia.
This volume is an essential information source
for all pharmacologists, psychiatrists, and neu-
roscientists.
