Have you just started to run? Thinking seriously about it? Have you been «isking yourself these questions?
• Should I buy a pair of running shoes? Which brand? What about a warmup suit, stopwatch, or other equipment?
• Where should I run—on an indoor track? Outdoors? On the road? In the country?
• When is the best time of day to run? Early morning, lunch hour, after work? How far should I run?
• How do I run with the most efficiency —do I let my arms swing; plant my hee! first or my toes first? How long should my stride be?
• What can I do to prevent getting injured?
• Should I train for a race? A marathon? How many miles should I do?
In the Beginner's Running Guide, Hal Higdon provides the answers to these questions and offers hundreds of professional tips to make your running enjoyable and safe. The author draws on thirty years of experience as a runner to give you the most recent and comprehensive knowledge in a breezy, personal style. You will meet O. J. Dubie, Helen Molinaro, and Glorianne Mather —beginning runners like you whose joys and problems you will be able to share.
You will also get personal glimpses into the world's best runners and running experts: Dr. George Sheehan, Marty Liquori, Don Kardong, Joe Henderson, and Jim Fixx.
But the real value of the book is its wealth of practical information: daily schedules to increase your endurance, speed, and distance; the real story on running shoes and podiatrists; how to find a coach; the ins and outs of entering races; racing and marathon tactics; runner's diets.
Whatever your present level of running ability the Beginner's Running Guide will enhance your running experiences.
