In the philosophy of Paul Ricoeur, phenomenology and existentialism come of age. As part of the discipline that led to his mastery of phenomenological philosophy, Ricoeur made a number of translations and studies of Husserl's writings. Many of his studies are published in this volume.
"The movement from Husserl to Ricoeur is a movement toward a more critical awareness of the presupposition ofthe finality ofthe scientific ideal of rigor and objectivity along with an accompanying suspicion that radicalness in philosophy is not to be attained by way of an egology without ontology. The self and the world stand in delicate balance. How is this balance to be understood? The nature and degree of the interpénétration of man and the world is surely one of the most obscure problems in philosophy. Husserl's contribution to its understanding is notable but scarcely final. What at least is evident is that confusion and excess in the existential interpretation of this balance become manifest... Tovább
