HUNGÁRIÁN LIBRARY Hungárián folk-tales are extremely rich and varied. They express the Hungárián people's particular way of life, mentality, outlook and humour until now little known to the world at large. Recently, edited by an outstanding Hungárián scholar, a comprehensive selection appeared, presenting the Hungárián tales in their originál, unrevised form, of special interest to the ethnographer. This volume, on the other hand, edited by Gyula Illyés, has been destined primarily for children, and not for adults interested in folklóré. The prominent Hungárián writer recasts these tales, but only to the degree of polishing the crudities and the carelessness inevitable in actual story-telling. All the originál beauty and the natural freshness of feeling have been retained untouched.
