An indeterminate structure may be defined as one for which the reaction components and internál stresses cannot be completely determined by the application of the three condition equations for static equilibrium. Indeterminate struetural analysis has been presented here in a manner which is rigorous, coherent and interesting. The book starts with a deep sense of appreciation of structural theory as it has developed from Archimedes (287-212 b.C.) to Mu'ller-Breslau (1851-1925 A D.) and other - contemporary luminaries in the field. Chapters 2-4 are elementary and help to introduce fundamental theories and problems encountered in the subject. Chapter 4, on the methods for computing deflections, is subdivided into eight parts, each focussing on a specific area of fundamental research. Chapter 5 analyses beams, articulated structures and continuous frames, Chapter 6 is on the method of least work, Chapter 7 analyses the column analogy and Chapter 8 and 9 deal with the theory and... Chapter 5 analyses beams, articulated structures and continuous frames, Chapter 6 is on the method of least work, Chapter 7 analyses the column analogy and Chapter 8 and 9 deal with the theory and applications of moment distributions. Chapters 10-13 are progressively more specialised and are based on the findings of the preceding chapters. The material included in Chapter 14 (on model analysis of structures) is based on the author's experience in developing the structural model laboratories at his Institute. Such models have been gene» rally unavailable in the earlier texts ön the subject. The book is designed for use as a text and for reference. The treatment is different from that in contemporary studies in that it is easier to understand and grasp. Solved examples and problems to be solved occur in every chapter while specific and generál references at the end of each chapter further enlighten the reader on the chosen areas of the subject. In short, thls book is a prerequisite to a proper and appreciative understanding of indeterminate structural analysis. Vissza
