Bombay and Calcutta are probably the best-known of India's cities. Bombay, on the Arabian Sea, is the country's leading seaport and an important industrial and commercial centre, as is Calcutta, the largest city in India, with a population of well over 7,000,000. India is a broad canvas on which are painted bold strokes of vivid colour balanced by warm and cool harmonies.
