But his animal friends reject him because he has lost his wild smell through contact with human beings, so he goes to live with Carina's family. King Gilga Mesh gets to hear of Inkydoo and demands that he lead his • cirmy to the tallest cedars in the forest to chop them dovm for his new temple — which will be the biggest temple in the world. When Inkydoo sees how ferociously Gilga Mesh conquers Humbaba, the giant of the forest, he is horrified, and with the help of the forest animals he frees, his friend. Then Humbaba uses his power to blow down the huge temple of Gilga Mesh. The king, subdued and humbled, finally agrees to give the forest to his new queen, to be used for free and for ever by the people.
Beneath Andrew Sinclair's rollicking story lie the sombre undertones of the ancient legend of Gilga Mesh.
ANDREW SINCLAIR was born in Oxford in 1935 and was educated at Eton, Harvard and Cambridge, where he took his PhD in American history and became a don. He is the author of seven novels including The Breaking of Bumbo, Gog and Magog, and numerous works of non-fiction. Inkydoo, the Wild Boy is his first book for children. Vissza
