THE AUTHOR: S. A. Barnett is one of the world's leading authorities on animal behavior. He has been a Senior Member of Glasgow University's Zoology Department since 1950. He is the author of The Human Species, The Rat: A Study in Behaviour, and the editor of A Century of Darwin. He contributes articles regularly to popular scientific magazines.
