There are no simple formulas for interior design, nor are there any set rules for success. The art is complex, best enjoyed and understood by singling out the work of the designers who have a special talent for taking a multitude of ideas and distilling them into a functional, beautiful environment. Yet whatever the approach, all the designs are stimulating and imaginative—the satisfying products of many, sometimes contradictory, components which are united by the background, personalities, and philosophies of individual designers.
ERICA BROWN, currently living in New York, is a feature writer for the Sunday Times. She has written extensively on design for a wide range of magazines, including The New York Times Magazine and Vogue, and in her spare time is practising what she preaches on an old house in the country. Vissza
