THE IOWA ACADEMY OF SCIENCE is an affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and shares the objecfives of the AAAS in furthering work of scientists, facilitating cooperation among them, and increasing public understanding of the role of science in society, especially in Iowa. Most of Iowa's scientific community, both academic and non-academic, is represented in the Academy. Membership is open to anyone interested in the Academy's objectives.
The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation is an independent, non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and wise management of Iowa's natural resources. Established in 1979 with support from Governor Robert D. Ray, the Foundation is a catalyst or facilitator, working cooperatively with governmental agencies, private groups, and individuals on programs that serve both short- and long-term natural resource goals. Tom C. Cooper, Executive Editor
Tom C. Cooper is no stranger to book publishing. This is the thirteenth book (he's not superstitious) he has either written or edited. He is the author of Arizona 11 (1979), The Best from Arizona Highways (1975), and The Southwest of Josef Muench (1974). He has edited Indian Arts and Crafts (1977), Desert Splendor (1978), DeGrazia's Art (1979), and Discover Arizona (1979), a series of six books.
Mr. Cooper is a nafive of Ames. He holds a B.S. degree from Iowa State University, and a master's degree from The University of Arizona. Mr. Cooper has taught journalism at both Iowa State and Arizona.
He was the editor of Arizona Highways magazine from 1975 until his return to his home state in 1979.
