In the following pages, the reader may become acquainted with the Hungarian schools of the last thousand years. He will hopefully sense, as we the citizens of this nation do, that the countless number of schools that have existed and exercised their influence in shaping innumerable generations along with the thousand-year-old culture they disseminated, have existed in symbiosis, being at once both Hungarian and European, each supporting the other in a natural unity.
Anyone taking a look at the history of Hungarian schooling and culture - whether it be just a quick glimpse at its past ten centuries, or a study of its breadth and depth from a scholarly point-of-view - will see that the Hungarians adopted many of the spiritual and cultural achievements of other European countries, but over the thousand years also contributed to and enriched European culture.
We are justified in saying that Europe would be the poorer without Hungarian education and culture!
