Microbial Ecology: A Conceptual Approach
Research and teaching in the field of microbiology have developed rapidly in the last few years, but there has been no textbook available which is designed specifically for advanced students In this subject. The need has now been met in this exciting new book; it describes and analyses the fundamental biotic and abiotic factors which determine the behaviour of microorganisms in any ecosystem and discusses a wide range of examples with emphasis on those which are of economic importance.

Basic Microbiology, volume 5, by R. E. Campbell BSc, MS, PhD. 1977. 160 pages, 56 illustrations.
'The author does well in describing the basic structure of microbial communities present in soil, water and air, and their participation in the major element transformation cycles, distilling this large segment of microbial ecology into a useful and compact volume. 'The author does well in describing the basic structure of microbial communities present in soil, water and air, and their participation in the major element transformation cycles, distilling this large segment of microbial ecology into a useful and compact volume. This book is definitely not a reference text but it would be very useful as a text for undergraduate microbial ecology and as an introduction to microbial ecology at graduate level.
'This text is well written and includes an orderly approach to ecological concepts with lucid diagrams and tables, with many selected from the original literature . . . Overall, I can recommend Microbial Ecology for its concise approach to describing bacteria, fungi, algae, and protozoa in the natural ecosystems.' Quarterly Review of Biology

The Role of Terrestrial and Aquatic Organisms in the Decomposition Process
Seventeenth symposium of the British Ecological Society, edited by J. M. Anderson BSc, PhD and A. Macfadyen MA, BSc, PhD. 1976. 480 pages, 94 illustrations. 'This is a very valuable book for anyone wishing to learn, or be brought up to date, about decomposition processes. Each chapter covers its subject in depth, and raises implications for future research.' Jourriai of Protozoology 'The collected papers successfully condense a large body of literature and suggest many new lines for research.' Biologist
Theoretical Ecology: Principles and Applications
Edited by R. M. May. 1976. 346 pages, 94 illustrations.
'Above all, the illustrated book is written in an easy style, and it makes such fascinating and enjoyable reading that it should have a wide appeal to degree students in the biological sciences as well as to research workers.' Nature
'A valuable contribution and teaching tool for which Robert May especially deserves our thanks.' Ecology
Pharmaceutical Microbiology
W. B. Hugo BPharm, FPS and A. D. Russell BPharm, DSc, PhD, MPS, MRCPath. 1977. 352 pages, 60 illustrations. This textbook provides an introduction to the branch of applied microbiology which deals with the manufacture and control of medicinal products. It also discusses the mode of action of antibacterial drugs and the resistance of microorganisms to these drugs. 'In sum, the book can be recommended as an authoritative, though elementary, introduction to pharmaceutical microbiology.'.youma/ of Pharmaceutical Sciences
