Gently graded for teaching English as a second or third language to children aged 7-11, this direct method course combines phonic and look-and-say methods to introduce new words and phrases. In the introductory book pictures are given with oral work using the sounds of which words are composed, and new words are built with these sounds. In the later books the principal divisions of each lesson are conversation, reading, activity and exercises. The course teaches a vocabulary of slightly over 1,000 words.
