The story of the Greeks is the story of civilization and progress itself: from them came most of the forms of drama we know today, the foundations upon which we have based our scientific study of the planets and stars and the models upon which almost every type of political system is based. There can be few problems that the Greeks did not consider and discuss either in their histories, plays or philosophical essays: questions of values and priorities in society, the relationship of government and the individual, the merits of reason and emotion. The Greeks, illustrated throughout in colour and black and white, begins with the Minoan Legacy to Greece and covers the Mycenaeans and Early Greeks, the rise of the polis, the Olympic Games, the Peloponnesian War and Alexander the Great and the Macedonian Empire.
