New Book Economy proceedings of the 5th international BOBCATSSS symposium

The magnificent building of the National Széchényi Library in Budapest, Hungary formed the scenery for the symposium "New Book Economy", held between January 27th and January 29th, 1997. The symposium - a bobcatsss initiative - was organized by students and staff of the Faculty of Economics and Information of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, in cooperation with the Association of Hungarian Librarians.
The main objective of bobcatsss - which is an acronym of Library and Information Schools in Budapest, Oslo, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tampere, Stuttgart, Sheffield and Szombathely - is to X exchange ideas about developments in Library and Information \ Service. Symposiums have proved to be a very effective
\ means of achieving this goal, as is shown by the success of \ the four previous symposiums organized by bobcatsss-\ members and the growing number of BOBCATsss-members.

\ This year the bobcatsss symposium deals with the \ New Book Economy and in particularly the changes in the information supply. Due to technical developments \ the supply of information is changing. Therefore the traditional role of the keyplayers in the booktrade is changing.
The contributions of most lecturers are brought together in this publication. Hopefully, these proceedings will help you not to forget this jubileum symposium. Hopefully these papers will be a contribution to the European discussion on the New Book Economy.
The librarian has to strive not to loose contact with the strongly changing information sector. The publisher has to realise that not the information itself, but the way of delivering is changing. The bookseller will become an information supplier. All three sectors have been represented at the 5th bobcatsss symposium and experiences were shared during these three days in several workshops and sessions. Vissza
