THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY By the beginning of the twenty-first century the world's air forces will field numerous new types of combat aircraft featuring an awesome rangé of new technologies to enable them to survive in increasingly hostile skies. The emphasis of the new designs is on survivability. Modern air defence systems present a tremendous threat to any fighter or bomber operating in a hostile air environment.
