Prepared with the close cooperation and the enthusiastic approval of The National Dog Owners' Association of Great Britain. A DOG OF YOUR OWN has been produced specifically to provide precisely the sort of information that will help you to make up your mind.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part contains detailed profiles of 190 international breeds, presented in such a way as to give you as a possible purchaser the maximum amount of useful advice to guide your choice. Each breed is illustrated with a large colour painting and described in detail under the following headings: size, exercise requirements, feeding, grooming, health care (where applicable), origin and history, and a summary of essential show points. Each entry begins with a summary of the breed's good points and its possible drawbacks in the form of an instant 'consumer' guide. These breed profiles are arranged in order of size, from the Chihuahua to the St Bernard.
The second part continues the practical approach of the book in the form of seven expertly prepared chapters on the following subjects: choosing a dog, feeding and exercise, basic training, grooming and health care, showing, breeding, and the dog owner and the law. Clear line drawings and black and white photographs are used to Illustrate these chapters.
