This book is intended to be an illustrated companion to a textbook of neurology. The author's aim is to show the student what he can perceive with his own senses at the bedside before embark-ing on the more technical methods employed in neurological investigation. The text is organized around a unique collection of photographs of patients who were shown in lecture-demonstra-tions in his Medical School overthe past twenty years. There are over 800 illus-trations which provide a valuable guide to the importance of personal observa-tion in diagnosis.
In his introductory chapter the author traces the historical development of neurology and emphasizes the importance of this approach for the modern student. The time-honoured clinical routine of taking a history and perform-ing an adequate physical examination is stressed and exemplified.
