Salvation of a Forsyte, written in 1900, is the story with which Galsworthy first marked out the Forsytes as his writing territory.
In it Swithin Forsyte recalls, on his deathbed, his youthful passión fór the daughter of a Hungárián revolutionary and his highly un-Forsytian involvement in an absurd uprising.
The other thirteen stories (paired *early' and 'laté' by the author to show
the effects of time) rangé from A Stoic, in which an octogenarian roué risks ruin to provide for his bastard's children, to a shocking aecount of tpatriotic, Britons persecuting a Germán carpenter in London during the Great War.
