Labor Productivity Here are the results of the first detailed working conference between Eastern and Western economists. This conference on labor productivity was held under the auspices of the International Economic Association. Approximately 40 participants, comprised equally of economists fromthe Soviet Union and Eastern Europe and from the United States and Western Europe, conducted extensive discussions in four major areas: Concepts and Measurement of Productivity; International Comparisons of Productivity; Wages and Productivity; Technical, Managerial, and Organizational Factors Affecting Productivity. This volume contains all the papers presented at the conference. They discuss such important topics as: the different meanings and measurement of productivity in Western and Socialist countries; measurement of comparative levels of productivity in the Soviet Union and Western countries, including the United States; the influence of productivity upon wages at the plánt and industry levels; the common effects of productivity changes upon methods of wage payment; and the influence of organizational factors on productivity. In addition to the papers, the book alsó contains a summary of the conference work and a glossary of terms used by Soviet and Eastern European economists which may prove unfamiliar to Western readers.
