Speaking English This is a remediai course containing speech practice material for students at intermediate and advanced level who need to improve their oral skills. The course consists of two books, a classbook and a tape companion. The classbook provides an introduction to the transcription of Dániel Jones, reviews of the vowel and consonant features of English, and provides opportunities for transcription and reading practice. The book is divided into six sections covering phonetic transcription; syllable stress; weak forms; miscellaneous drills; intonation; passages for reading. The tape companion contains twenty units and four revision units of dialogues and contextualized drills to practise the oral skills covered in the classbook. The drills are designed for repetition work and feature both 'forward-' and 'back-chaining' as well as straight repetition.
