This book is a critical exposition and evaluation of the ideas contained in the first half of Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason". The author believes that we understand Kant only in proportion as we can say, clearly and in contemporary terms, what his problems were, which of them are still problems and what contribution Kant makes to their solution.
Many commentaries and expositions of Kant's philosophy adopt a rigidly anti- or pro-Kantian approach, which makes it difficult for the student to command a clear view of his theories. Mr Bennett tries to avoid partisan disputes and to present an unbiased assessment of Kant based on modern analytical techniques.
