CARD GAMES FOR TWO
"I have confined my attention to games where not only the rules must be learnt but also the various factors which go towards giving a would-be player a real insight into their finer points.
The same pack of fifty-two cards can be used for the playing of so many games that it appears more useful to detail only those where the element of skill is in itself a sufficient incentive to try them without the addition of a financial stake.
Of the games that I have sought to teach you in the following pages, all have a history, all are steeped in tradition, but like good wine, they all improve with age. In fact, the only comparatively new games included are 'Gin-Rummy' and 'Canasta', and even these are nothing more than a highly developed American version of a very old game.
When you have tried out these games and mastered their technique, you may well think some of the tactics that I have suggested are inferior to your own ideas. You may well be right. Over the years the progress and development of a pack of cards has never stood still. One of its main attractions is that it probably never will." Vissza
