KURT F. REINHARDT was born in Munich, and received his doctorate in comparative literature, philosophy and history from the University of Freiburg in 1922. He came to this country in 1928, and has been on the faculty of Stanford University since 1930. At present he is Professor of Germanic Languages there. His published works include numerous articles, translations and books. Among the best known are "Mysticism and Pietism," "A Realistic Philosophy," a translation of "The Dark Night of the Soul" by St. John of the Cross, and "The Existentialist Revolt."
