The Lake District National Park is the largest and perhaps best known of the National Parks of England and Wales. It's wild and desolate hills, often divided by magnificent ravines and cascading waterfalls, are amongst the oldest in the world. The serenity and beauty of it's valleys and lakes have been the inspiration and home of poets and writers from Wordsworth to Beatrix Potter. Little wonder then that it has been popular with both walkers and holiday makers for over one hundred and fifty years.
Great Walks of the Lake District includes twenty-eight of the best walks in this region, ranging from short easy strolls to tough mountain expeditions. The introduction provides background information on the area together with a description of its special characteristics. The walks are graded for difficulty. For each, detailed maps and directions are given together with descriptions of the features of interest along the way.
