The wind whips along the lonely glen, bringing flurries of snow down from the brooding peaks and scattering the flakes across the heather to cover the graves of the ancient clan dead and bank against the herdsman's shelter. Such is the traditional view of the Scottish landscape, and to a large measure it is true, but as the glorious compilation of photographs in this book shows, there is far more to the northern land than tradition declares. There are the tranquil lowlands, where the rumble of farm machinery echoes across the soft landscape of fields and woodlands.
