It all began with an art gallery - ARTic - a 60 m2 building made from snow and ice. The year was 1990, and when a guest asked if it was possible to stay the night there, the idea was born to build Icehotel. Since then, Icehotel has grown, and with a new appearance each year, has gained an international reputation. Someone from the United Nations even called it the eighth wonder of the world.
This book tells the story of a modern adventure in the wilds. About how a group of enthusiastic builders and artists construct and run the world's largest igloo during an entire winter season. It tells of the hotel's surroundings, and the exciting activities which have given the small village of Jukkasjarvi a prominent place on the international map. The book also provides some 30 recipes that have their roots deeply entrenched in Nordic gastronomy. It opens the doors to Absolut Icebar, one of the world's most exclusive bars, and presents new, exotic drinks.
