Gerevich The A rt of Buda and Pest in the Middle Ages Recent large-scale reconstructions in the town of Budapest made extensive excavations possible, from which the exploration of the onetime Royal Palace stood out in significance. The latter was conducted by the author who, in this book, summarizes the results of 25 years' research. In the light of ample new evidence it became clear that the central areas of Hungary had been the birthplace of practically every art style later to be found all over the country. Thus, in contrast to the earlier view, the royal centres of Buda and Pest, destroyed later during 150 years of Turkish occupation, had a key role in the evolution of art in Hungary and an extremely important part alsó in the generál European development, especially in Central Europe.
