of the Lebanon. The originality of
the present work is that it is
written by a Lebanese of great
erudition, making use of unpubli-
shed documents collected by the
author in the archives of the
chancelleries of Europe. This data
has enabled him to give his work
a sober and sometimes severe
aura of historical reality.

tory, so profoundly connected
with the current of universal
history. He does this with the
objectivity and independence pro-
