Leicestershire is a county of contrasts. On the one hand there are the fast-moving modern businesses and traditional industries that lie in and around Leicester and to the west of the county. On the other there is the rolling landscape of green hills, pretty villages and rich farmland. The thriving market towns of Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough and Uppingham still reflect the importance of farming to their communities.
Rutland too, recently restored to county status, offers attractive and historic countryside, as well as Rutland Water, a 20th-century man-made lake the size of Windermere.
Inspired by these contrasts Bill Meadows, the well-known landscape photographer, spent two years capturing all aspects of the area's life and scenery on film. His striking images of the castles of Belvoir and Oakham; of Bradgate Park, once the home of Lady Jane Grey; of Charnwood Forest; of the battlefield at Bosworth where Richard III was killed; and of the magnificent complex of 19th-century...
