from many countries can meet amid a friendly ambiance, and give account of the different trends and recent results of
Liszt research. With the help of the sponsors: the Hungarian Ministry of National Cultural Heritage and the National Cultural Fond of Hungary, the Hungarian Liszt Society has been able, for the first time, to publish a selection of the papers presented at a Liszt Conference held in Budapest: the one entitled "Liszt 2000", which took place in May 1999. This conference was, as the reader can see from the Contents of the present volume - published in honour of the Millennium of the State of Hungary -, an international hommage to the genius Franz Liszt, at the threshold of the new Millennium. To the artist who belongs to
the whole world but who always declared himself to be Hungarian. The articles have been printed in their original languages: English, French and German (official at the conference), with some exceptions: Hungarian mother tongue scholars have been published in Hungarian as well, and the one of the Italian scholar in Italian only.
