A magnificent buildmg-by-buildmg-pull-out panorama of a vanished city: the London that was destroyed by the Great Fire. Superbly executed by C. J. Visscher, the panorama provides a realistic view of seventeenth-century London as seen from the south bank of the Thames. On the reverse side is printed the famous panorama by Hollar, showing London immediately before and after the Fire. Also included is a section of another Hollar panorama illustrating a part of the south bank, looking literally into the back gardens of suburban London. There is as well a magnificent full-colour reproduction of a section of de Witt's colour panorama, showing part of the suburbs on the north bank and including Hampstead Hill. John Wellsman provides a detailed commentary on all the panoramas and an informative description of seventeenth-century London.
