Dynamic Los Angeles, "City of Angelsl' rose from the settlement of El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles — proclaimed by Father Juan Crespi during the summer of 1769 as he accompanied the Spanish expeditionary force which was searching the area for possible mission sites.
From its humble beginnings the city has grown into what is now a sprawling metropolis on the southern coast of California; a city that is filled with engineering showcases, broad boulevards á.nd lake-filled parks; where the Atmosphere is charged with excitement and the days are full of summer sunshine, j To the north of the city is Holljnvood, glamor center ofthe film industry, and glittering Beverly Hills, home ofthe movie stars whose sumptuous mansions are set in lovely palm-lined avenues. Fabulous Wilshire Boulevard, one of the world's outstanding thoroughfares, curves its way from downtown Los Angeles through the lakes and palms of Mac Arthur Park to the ocean front at Santa Monica, where the magfnificent beaches are washed by the Pacific's rolling waves.
