Ludwig von Mises
Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973) was the most celebrated advocate of capitalism, and critic of socialism, of his time. He was the aclcnowledged dean of the "Austrian" school of economics, and the teacher of F.A. von Hayek and many other influential economists and social scientists. His career as a teacher and writer spanned most of the century. When he retired from New York University at the age of 83, Mises was the oldest active professor in the United States, and had lectured all over the worid.
