Lure of Everest is the story of the first Indian Expedition to Mount Everest. In this book the Leader of the Expedition, Brigadier Gyan Singh narrates in simple and straightforward language the story of the long and hazardous journey to the world's highest peak, the gallant attempt by three members of the Expedition to reach the top, and their withdrawal in the face of inclement weather when barely 700 feet from their goal. The Author speaks of months of planning and long hours of work by hundreds of people in all walks of life which made the Expedition possible. The Expedition is a historic landmark in the annals of mountaineering in India, and is also significant because, for the first time, the bulk of the equipment was manufactured in India. It is a record based on the diaries kept by the Author and other members of the Expedition and describes the trials and tribulations, the joys and successes achieved by the Expedition.
