PSYCHOLOGY
THE I AND THE NOT I
a study in the development of consciousness
"The book is written from a rich store of knowledge and experience, and can claim a distinctive place among its several predecessors. The author's main objective in marshalling her material is a plea for the development of consciousness, not only for the purpose of achieving a fuller life but also as an ethical task. . . . "By far the best book we have presenting the basic ideas of Jung's psychology for the nonspecialist. Postulating the concepts of the I (ego) and the Not-I (the unconscious and the objective worlds), she takes the reader on an explanatory journey through Jungian depth psychology. Often misunderstood Jungian terms, such as the shadow, anima and the animus, participation mystique and the collective unconscious are examined as they relate to the I and the Not-I in their everyday situations rather than in their application in the world of the neurotic."—Library Journal
