Fülszöveg

Many of us rarely stop to consider what opinions we form of others, how we form them, and whether we are right. Equally, we can form and assert dogmatically opinions about another person that affect our whole behaviour towards that person.
Both 'informar and 'professional' judgements can have far-reaching effects. People are selected for jobs or for higher education, psychiatrists decide what is wrong with patients, social workers decide the fates of their 'clients' - all with apparent complete confidence in their own judgement.
The forming of opinions or impressions about others, 'interpersonal perception', is one of the major topics of social psychology. Dr Cook, emphasizing behavioural aspects and the forming of judgements and impressions in actual encounters, offers the reader a concise introduction to 'the study of the ways people react and respond to others, in thought, feeling and action'.
