Born in Lebanon in 1883, but a rcsiclcnl of the United States of America until his passing in 1931, Kahlil Gibran holds a unique place among modern writers. He was widely acclaimed in both English-speaking and Arabic cultures and his 1923 book The Prophet has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and has been translated into at least 20 languages. Gibran spent time with a number of notable artisans including William Butler Yeats, Auguste Rodin, John Galswoi'thy, and Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung.
