The drawings and writings reproduced in I dream ofpeace are by children from former Yugoslavia. They reveal the hopes and fears of thousands of children from the region whose world has been shattered by the death and destruction of war. This book is a tribute to their dreams, a testimony to their suffering, and a protest against the violation of their fundamental right to be free of the torments of war. Finally, it is a weapon of peace for its readers-parents and children, teachers and politicians, peace lovers and peace makers-as it gives voice to the children in crying out: Enough is enough! The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) collected the drawings, letters, and poems from schools and refugee camps in former Yugoslavia, as part of its psychosocial assistance program for war-traumatized children.
